Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1006195.1 : A wyse55 terminal does not work on E4500 as a ttya console.
PreviouslyPublishedAs 208670 Symptoms A wyse55 terminal serving as a console on an E4500 ttya serial port does not produce a login or work at OBP (open bootprom), but this same terminal works fine as a console on a SS5 (SPARCstation 5) ttya serial port and non console terminal on an E4500 using ttyb. Resolution In order for this third party terminal to work as a console on an E4500 using the ttya serial port, the following procedure should be followed paying close attention to the cable configuration. 1.) Configure the Wyse55 terminal for 9600, 8 databits, no parity, 1 stop and xon/xoff. Resetting terminal to factory settings should configure the terminal to these settings. 2.) Attach the serial cable between Wyse55 (AUX) and E4500 ttya. Important Note: the cable must only include pins 2,3 and 7. The Wyse55 will not work with a true null modem cable. Cable pinouts. SUN Wyse 2 - 3 3 - 2 7 - 7 3.) Set the E4500 system switch to NORMAL. 4.) Remove the SUN keyboard if one is attached. 5.) Power up the E4500. Note: EEPROM setting 'auto-boot?=true' for E4500 to boot. A bootup messages should now start to appear followed by the console login. Relief/Workaround Use 'TIP' connection or a laptop running Hyperterm. Additional Information If problems persist, attach a SUN keyboard, hold down 'STOP' 'N" keys, power on E4500, hold down keys long enough until OBP prompt appears. Make sure not to release the keys too soon. This procedure will restore the default eeprom settings. Set eeprom 'diag-switch?=false' to avoid system from running firmware diagnostics. For more information on resetting the Wyse55 to factory settings, see: http://wyse.vecmar.com/faq_wyse55.htm 1.) Power off terminal. 2.)
