Solution Type Problem Resolution Sure Solution 1004867.1 : Sun StorEdge[TM] 3310:Symptom:3310 not seen when connected to LVD SCSI-3 (jasper) HBA
PreviouslyPublishedAs 206829 Symptoms A new Sun StorEdge[TM] 3310 was connected to the LVD SCSI-3 HBA installed in a v240, probe-scsi-all did not see the 3310 nor did any device entries build when boot -r was done yet when this same array was connected to the onboard LVD SCSI the 3310 is visable with a prob-scsi-all and device entries were built. Resolution Reviewing the /var/adm/messages file we find that we were generating error messages when the array was connected to either the onboard LVD or the LVD SCSI-3 (jasper) HBA. Card or firmware failure. The error messages indicate that we are dealing with the a hardware issue. Check the termination and cables for bent pins. Usually with SCSI bus DATA phase parity errors it is the cable and/ or termination. Also check for patches for glm, and disk firmware. In this particular instance, it was found that a 3rd party LVD SCSI cable was used to connect the array to the HBA. Below is a table that lists the supported LVD SCSI-3 cables for use on a 3310 array. X1136A 530-2982 Ultra-3 SCSI cable, VHDCI/VHDCI, 0.8M X1137A 530-2983 Ultra-3 SCSI cable, VHDCI/VHDCI, 1.2M X1138A 530-2538 Ultra-3 SCSI cable, VHDCI/VHDCI, 2M X3830B 530-2984 Ultra-3 SCSI cable, VHDCI/VHDCI, 4M X3831B 530-2985 Ultra-3 SCSI cable, VHDCI/VHDCI, 10M Product Sun StorageTek 3310 SCSI Array Sun Fire V240 Server 3310, Jasper, lvd, v240, cable Previously Published As 71821 Change History Date: 2004-12-02 User Name: 71396 Action: Approved Comment: Reviewed document, publishing.
