Symptoms
When trying to do a flashupdate as root using ftp, users get a message
telling them that FTP login failed.

Resolution
In Solaris[TM] 7 and 8, the ftpusers file is located in /etc. In
Solaris[TM] 9 the ftpusers file is located in /etc/ftpd. The ftpusers file
contains a list of default users who are denied ftp access for security
reasons. This list includes "root".

To enable root to have ftp access, simply vi the ftpusers file and insert a # in front of root. This should enable you to do the flashupdate via ftp.

For security reasons, you should uncomment root from the ftpusers file once the flashupdate is completed.

Refer to the manpage on ftpusers for additional details.
