Symptoms
Partial Parity Group LDEV formatting is extremely slow even when system option mode 269 (High Speed format) is on.
Detail Description:

As a comparison, using same sized LDEVs:
# Format of all LDEVs in a parity group took about 1 hour.
# Partial format of some LDEVs in a parity group took 3 days.

Resolution
The 9990/9985 subsystem is working as designed, the format speed control logic has not been changed in any microcode since the box was released and the slow formats experienced are not related to any hardware issues.

An RFE to make partial parity group LDEV formatting run faster has been filed and accepted.
