Symptoms

The following error message, or a similar error, appears every two minutes
on the Sun Fire[TM] V100 Server's Service Processor (SP) of the Sun StorEdge
6320 system:

"IO Error accessing persistence file on flash disk"

Resolution

The flash disk, Part # 370-5773, is a USB (Universal Serial Bus) device
that plugs in to the back of the Sun Fire V100 and is used to store the
configuration files.

The error above indicates that the flash disk might be faulty, missing, or
not seated properly.

To troubleshoot this problem, do the following:

1. Reseat the USB device.
2. If you are still getting the same error, log in to the SP and check that
/flash is NOT mounted.
 NOTE:
/flash should only be mounted by the fbr script. With /flash mounted,
the fbr script will not be able to execute.
3. If /flash is mounted, umount /flash. This should clear the error.
4. If the error persists, rebuild the operating system of the Sun Fire V100
using the recovery CD.
It is possible that a software problem on the SSP can cause the flash disk to
be inaccessible.

Additional Information

The error may also take different forms as below :

persist.1:PERSISTENCE_IO_ERROR:0:IO Error accessing persistence
file on flash disk

persist.2:PERSISTENCE_IO_ERROR_ON_FILE:1:Error accessing persistence
data file {0}:

persist.3:PERSISTENCE_IO_ERROR_ON_STORAGE:0:Error accessing persistence
flash disk
