Impact

Incorrect part number on Netra 440 Fan Assembly. There is no impact to system fit, form or function.

Contributing Factors

Netra 440 systems shipped from May of 2006 until August 14, 2008 are affected by this mislabeling issue. Systems shipped on or after August 15, 2008 will not be impacted by this issue.

Symptoms

There are no symptoms other than the Netra 440 PCI RoHS Fan Assembly (Sun p/n 540-6712-01) may be mislabeled as 540-6069-03. The latter part number was used for the non-RoHS part.

Root Cause

Sun's supply vendor did not implement the RoHS conversion ECO correctly. Root Cause / Corrective Action has been implemented at the supplier.

Supply vendor has re-labeled all on-hand inventory of PCI/Fan sub-assemblies to reflect the RoHS part number, 540-6712-01 (Assy,N440,PCI Fan/Brkt, RoHS).

The Supply vender has also updated their shop floor system, ensuring that all future shipments will have the correct label, and has shipped quantities of the 540-6712-01 RoHS label with correlating serial numbers to Celestica.

Celestica will re-label all inventory of PCI Fan bracket assemblies upon reciept of RoHS labels from the supply vendor by August 17, 2008.

Resolution:

If fan assembly part number 540-6069-03 is found in a RoHS system, that part number is incorrect and is really 540-6712-01. The part is RoHS compliant and should be replaced by a RoHS compliant spare upon failure (Sun p/n 540-6712-01).

No field remediation required - this FAB is For Information Only. Non-RoHS (540-6069-03) part can be replaced by RoHS equivalent 540-6712-01 but not the reverse.

Identification of Affected Parts (how to):

Part number label on PCI fan sub-assembly 540-6069-03 in system shipped after May 2006 is incorrect. Systems shipped after May 2006 are RoHS compliant and may have a mis-labeled fan sub-assembly as described above.

Systems shipped after May 2006 cannot use a 540-6069-03 as a replacement.
