Solution Type FAB (standard) Sure Solution 1019312.1 : Disk arrays running firmware versions 6.60 and 7.10 cannot send automated alerts through SDP to the Sun Storage TSC.
PreviouslyPublishedAs 238390 Product Sun StorageTek 6130 Array Sun StorageTek 6140 Array Sun StorageTek 6540 Array Sun StorageTek Flexline 280 Array Sun StorageTek Flexline 240 Array Sun StorageTek Flexline 380 Array Date of Preliminary Release 06-Jun-2008 Date of Resolved Release 18-Jan-2010 SDP server will no longer manage the array when upgraded to 6.60 or 7.10 firmware (see details below). ImpactIf a disk array that is being monitored by a Service Delivery Platform (SDP) server is upgraded to 6.60 or 7.10 firmware the SDP server will no longer be able to manage that array, and automated alerts will stop working for that disk array. Sun support personnel can still use SDP to remotely manage the array if they have SANtricity 10.10 installed on their personal computer. If a disk array is added to an existing Service Delivery Platform (SDP) site, and the array is running 6.60 or 7.10 firmware, the SDP server on-site will not be able to perform an initial discovery of the array. In this case, the array will not be available in SDP Insight or the SDP Browser Based Interface. As a result, remote connections can't be established to manage the array via SDP tunneling. Contributing FactorsAbove listed systems running SANtricity 10.10, and when upgraded to array firmware 6.60 or 7.10, are impacted by this issues.SymptomsSDP cannot manage this disk array. This can only occur after an upgrade of the disk array firmware to either 6.60 or 7.10. At that point the SDP site server will no longer be able to see the disk array.A "not compatible" error is sent to the SDP site server, but this may not be seen by the support personnel or the customer. The net result is the array appears off-line in SDP and the SDP system can no longer accept and process the automated alerts. Root CauseThe SDP site servers currently run Linux 2.4 kernel, which is no longer supported by Santricity 10.10. Therefore, Santricity 10.10 will not install on the SDP site server, and Santricity 10.10 is required to support controller firmware 6.60 and 7.10.This will happen to all above listed disk arrays at SDP managed sites which have 6.60 or 7.10 firmware installed, until the SDP team is able to upgrade the site servers to Linux 2.6. Corrective ActionWorkaroundThere is no work-around for automated alerts. However, support personnel can still manage these arrays manually using SDP tunneling. Resolution A version of the SDP application that is compatible with the Linux 2.6 kernel now exists. A process has been developed to upgrade SDP site units from the Linux 2.4 kernel to the Linux 2.6 kernel. The upgrade process requires action from both the SDP Operations team and the SUN Engineer responsible for the site unit. Technical support for an SDP upgrade can be requested, by doing one of the following: 1) email [email protected], 2) call the ASR Service Desk: +1-877-364-1940, or 3) open an SR and assign it to the SDP queue: GL-GS-OPS-SDP-BACKLINE. Please provide these details: - Customer name and ID, and - Contact details of the SUN Engineer working the local upgrade The SDP Operations team will engage the SUN Engineer to schedule the upgrade as it requires a back-up be taken prior to the upgrade and a custom USB image for that customer.
