Solution Type FAB (standard) Sure Solution 1018982.1 : No console output from Service Processor on early Sun Fire X4150 units.
PreviouslyPublishedAs 231468 Product Sun Fire X4150 Server Date of Resolved Release 11-Feb-2008 No console output, but system will boot and operate correctly (see details below). ImpactNo console output, but system will boot and operate correctly.Contributing FactorsSun Fire X4150 systems built during week 48 of calendar year 2007 - last week of November and first week of December of 2007 are potentially impacted by this issue.SymptomsNo console output when connected to the Service Processor (SP). This issue will manifest itself on initial power on of the system.Root CauseBIOS settings were incorrectly configured to "system" from the default setting of "SP" on some early production systems. The issue has been corrected and the proper BIOS setting is now being used in Manufacturing. The affected units were built in week 48 - the last week of November and first week of December of 2007. Serial number / date codes of affected system will be 747xxxxxxx through 751xxxxxxx approximately. This issue occurred due to some units not getting complete normal software download and BIOS preset process because Manufacturing manually downloaded approximately 40 to 50 early production units off line, thus BIOS did not get checked and reset by the Manufacturing (MFG) test process on these systems. Corrective ActionWorkaroundNo workaround available. ResolutionEnter the BIOS set-up menu and hit "F9" (set defaults) and reboot, or Manually set "external serial port" in the BIOS to direct output to the Service Processor.ReferencesNoneFor information about FAB documents, its release processes, implementation strategies and billing information, go to the following URL: For Sun Authorized Service Providers go to: In addition to the above you may email: Internal Contributor/submitter [email protected] Internal Eng Responsible Engineer [email protected], [email protected] Responsible Manager: [email protected] Internal Services Knowledge Engineer [email protected] Internal Eng Business Unit Group NSG (Network Systems Group) Internal Sun Alert & FAB Admin Info 07-Feb-2008: Initial draft completed and sent to Extended Review. 11-Feb-2008: FAB sent to Publish. 06-Jan-2010: Corrected Product Name to swoRDFish inconsistency.
