PreviouslyPublishedAs 228535 Product Sun StorageTek 9990 System Sun StorageTek 9910 Sun StorageTek 9960 System Sun StorageTek 9970 System Sun StorageTek 9985 System Sun StorageTek 9980 System Impact In order to ensure consistent and available subsystem operation, maintenance personnel MUST refrain from modifying SVP settings and parameters that are undocumented, or are not part of specific maintenance operations. Contributing Factors The SVP and Microcode program, and other authorized applications such as Hi-Track, assume several default settings with respect to the SVP - Windows OS Operating environment, and networking parameters. Symptoms Changing any of the SVP - Windows OS parameters names can negatively affect the SVP related programs or utilities that run on the SVP PC. E.g; Hi-Track. Such unauthorized changes can also negatively affect programs and external software that needs access to the SVP, such as (but not limited to) StorageNavigator, GraphTrack, HiCommand Device Manager. Root Cause Examples of prohibited modifications to the SVP - Windows Operating System include. Note: This list is NOT exhaustive.
Workaround
Resolution Unless specifically instructed to do so by PTS/RSD, or official documentation such as the MMN's, FAB's, HDS ECN's, or Alerts detail the requirement to make such a change, do NOT make ANY unauthorized modifications to the SVP - Windows Operating System. If the SVP Windows Network Interfaces names are found to have been modified, please rename them (right mouse click on the interface names) to the correct, original Network Interfaces names which are Local Area Connection, and Local Area Connection 2 or Local Area Connection 3. As per procedure 1.2 Setting IP Address and Network on page WEB01-40 in the WEB CONSOLE Section of the 9900V Series (SE9970 and SE9980) Maintenance Manuals, "Local Area Connection 2" or "Local Area Connection 3" should be used for setting an external IP address on the SVP for use on the customer's intranet.
As per procedure 1.2 Setting IP Address and Network on page WEB01-30 in the WEB CONSOLE Section of the USP (ST9990) and NSC (ST9985) Maintenance Manuals, "Local Area Connection" should be used for setting an external IP address on the SVP for use on the customer's intranet.
A reboot of the SVP is required to "activate / enable" the Network Interface name changes. The SVP - Windows OS Regional Language must be left at the default setting of English (US). As per the MMN SVP specification, the Time Zone must be set to GMT. The only software packages that should be installed on the SVP are those documented in the MMN's SVP section, and Hi-Track.
