PreviouslyPublishedAs 201304 Product Sun Fire V445 Server Part
Impact The first set of 105 FRU MBC boards for the Sun Fire V445 were shipped from CTH with the jumper for pins 1 and 2 of J0601 installed. These FRUs will fail to operate with J0601 in this position and the system will not power up. The jumper must be moved to pin 2 only (open) for the module to operate correctly. Contributing Factors A specific group of MBC Board FRUs, P/N 501-7288-06, are affected. The boards can be identified by visually inspecting for pins 1 and 2 of J0601 being jumpered. In addition, they will have serial numbers (at top left of board) from the following list.

Symptoms When an affected MBC FRU is installed the system will not power up. Root Cause Only the lower segments of ALOM code was loaded into ALOM flashrom on these 105 MBCs. After BFT testing the jumper was installed across pins 1 and 2 but the boards were not retested. With this jumper installed, the MBC card will flip upper and lower code and try to execute non-executable code. Resolution When replacing the MBC board from FRU stock, move the jumper to pin 2(J0601) prior to replacing the MBC board, then update the ALOM firmware. Detailed Procedure: 1. Visually inspect the MBC board prior to installation. sc> flashupdate -s (netid) -f (file of download firmware) sc> resetsc -y 6. Power on the system The latest ALOM firmware may be downloaded from http://www.sun.com/download/products.xml?id=44eb1efd Previously Published As 102635 Internal Comments Related Information
