Solution Type FAB (standard) Sure Solution 1000970.1 : When Ultra 40 is powered up there will be a sudden loss of power and video signal will be lost
PreviouslyPublishedAs 201288 Product Sun Ultra 40 Workstation Date of Resolved Release 02-NOV-2006 Part
Impact The system shuts down during the bootup process and will remain off until the Motherboard is replaced. Contributing Factors Sun Ultra 40 Workstations with Motherboard part number 375-3343-01 are impacted. Motherboard part number 375-3343-01 (with Purge label P00120383) is NOT affected. There does not appear to be any data to support test escapes resulting in field failures due to this issue. At this point it is believed that this issue was contained by the test process initiated via StopShip/Purge P00120383. Symptoms There will be sudden loss of power and the video signal will be lost when an affected Ultra 40 is powered on. Both the outside Front Panel Power LED and the "power good" LED on the motherboard will not be lit. The LED on the motherboard is D18, which is located between D19 and D20. Root Cause Mitac has discovered a hardware design overspec situation on their motherboard which was the cause of the Electrical Over Stress (EOS) on the chips. Mitac has made motherboard design changes to input resistor and diode values to address this issue, and the qualifications performed have shown excellent results. Corrective action was made available in Manufacturing on November 2, 2006 via ECO# WO_35262. Corrective action was made available in Services on February 19, 2007 via GSAP# 3820. Resolution Replacement Time Estimate: 30 minutes Hot Swappable: No Upon failure only, replace Motherboard as follows;
Motherboard part number 375-3343-01 with Purge label P00120383 is NOT affected.
