PreviouslyPublishedAs 201096 Product Sun Fire X4100 Server Sun Fire X4200 Server Bug Id <SUNBUG: 6471012> Impact There is an incompatibility between the currently shipping BIOS version (BIOS 36) for Sun Fire X4100/X4200 Servers and the LSI MPT firmware in some of these systems. This will cause the LSI MPT BIOS to be inoperable and prevent access to the hardware RAID utility. Contributing Factors Affected X4100/X4200 systems will have LSI BIOS version 6.02. The system BIOS version and LSI BIOS and FW versions will be seen on the console during POST. They can also be viewed using the #ipmitool fru list command. Systems with serial numbers lower than 1762TH1-0633000486 may be affected. In this example, 0633 indicates the year and week of shipment. Note: This issue does not impact any RAID configuration that is already set up. Symptoms After the system boots up and CTRL-C is typed to get into the LSI configuration utility, the following error message is displayed. "configuration utility text strings image memory error" Soon thereafter the system resets. Root Cause X4100/X4200 systems started shipping from the factory about 9-Sep-2006 with BIOS 36 which is incompatible with the LSI firmware 6.02 which was shipped since GA. Corrective action has been taken in Sun Manufacturing so that new systems shipping will have their LSI MPT BIOS/firmware upgraded to be compatible with BIOS version 36. Resolution Upgrade the LSI MPT BIOS /FW to these versions.
This software is available from http://www.sun.com/servers/entry/x4100/downloads.jsp When any BIOS/firmware upgrade is done in the future, you should ensure that the LSI firmware/MPT BIOS is also upgraded. Previously Published As 102630 Internal Comments Related Information
