Front LCD panel will be blank or you may experience an issue
connecting to the SP at boot mode has not completed.
To identify this issue, you will observe that the front LCD panel
is back lit with a light, but no characters. Additionally, you
will not be able to configure any of the normal setup features
from the front panel.
Root Cause
The vendor supplied root cause is that 'Boot mode' has been altered
and this needs to be set to defaults.
PTS has been informed that a high percentage of systems have seen
this issue in the field.
Resolution
If the field encounters this symptom, please adhere to the following step-by-
step procedure and perform accordingly.
1. Attach a PC to the Serial Port.
A. Jumper J19 to set the Service Processor output to the Serial Port.
- OR -
B. Logging in to the Service Processor with a Manager ( you will
need to create a Service account) or Service account.
In either case, the field must perform the following steps.
2. Remove AC power.
3. Jumper TH84 - located under the power supply at the end of the
66-MHz PCIx slot.
a. On Sun Fire V20Z, the "clear CMOS" jumper J110 can be used, if necessary.
b. On Sun Fire V40Z, the "clear CMOS" jumper J125 can be used, if necessary.
Using the Serial Port
---------------------
4. Attach a PC to the Serial Port.
5. Apply AC Power.
NOTE: The space bar needs to be depressed within three seconds
Serial Port will show.
Hit any Key to Stop Autoboot = 0.
6. Depress the space bar for three seconds.
7. At the prompt => type "saveenv".
8. Remove AC power.
9. Remove Jumper TH84.
10.The Service Processor will now work properly.

1. Log in to the Service Processor using a "service" account.
2. At the prompt $ type sp set root on.
3. your password: <service password>.
4. New root password: <make something up>.
5. Confirm root password: <same as above>.
6. At the prompt $ type su -.
7. password: <this is the new made up root password>.
8. At the prompt # type setenv uboot 0.
9. Remove AC power.
10. Remove Jumper TH84.
11. The Service Processor will now work properly.
