Impact

There is no impact to the operation of the system.  It is possible customers may erroneously believe that PCI-X cannot operate at 100MHz due to the mislabeling.

Symptoms

Customer may complain that they don't think their PCI-X assembly can operate at 100MHz.

Root Cause

PCI-X assemblies have been manufactured since their release (August 2006) with labels that indicates they only have 33Mhz/66Mhz capabilities when in reality they are capable of operating at up to 100Mhz.  The product BOM wasn't updated due to an Engineering oversight.

New labels, which reference 33Mhz/66Mhz/100Mhz, have been added to PCI-X assemblies in manufacturing with the release of ECO WO_35228 effective March 27, 2007.  Field FRU inventory will be upgraded.

Resolution

The purpose of this FAB informational only.  If a customer questions or complains that the PCI-X (Sun p/n 541-1486) will not run above 66MHz, inform them that the labels are in error and that the product can operate at up to 100MHz.

If a customer is insistent that they need the correct labels, they can be obtained via the internal only Non Orderable Part Request Tool per the below URL;

In the pull-down select Part Request, enter the necessary information and click Send Request.

Service Representative should order one each of all three of the following for each PCI-X card needing updated labeling:

263-2080-01 (replaces 263-2255-01)
263-2091-01 (replaces 263-2257-01)
263-2096-01 (replaces 263-2256-01)

that the issue exists. The new label which references
33Mhz/66Mhz/100Mhz has been added to PCI-X assemblies in manufacturing

inventory will be upgraded. If a customer is insistent that they need
the correct label one can be obtained from WWOPs.
