Sun Blade[tm] 150: Repair Procedures
This section provides the most common repair procedures for the
Sun Blade 150. The following procedures with their corresponding section numbers
are located in the Sun
Blade 150 Service Manual (816-4379).
Note: A Sun Blade 150 Hardware Documentation CD assembly,
part number 724-7354-02, is part of the accessory kit that ships inside the
carton with each Sun Blade 150 Workstation. The documentation CD includes many
Sun Blade 150 manuals. The files on the CD include movies for major hardware
service procedures. These movies can be viewed as standalone procedures, and
can also be reached by links within the HTML Service Manual on the Sun Blade
150 Hardware Documentation CD.

Internal card reader fixes.
- Page 3 of the Sun
Blade 150 Product Notes (816-1163) describes operational status
of SCR LED.

- Appendix A.5.2 describes CD-ROM and DVD-ROM jumper settings.
|
CPU |
- CPU die temperature reported by 'prtdiag' and 'prtpicl' is incorrect
on Sun Blade 100/150 and is not a supported function (FIN I1021-1).
- A specific group of Sun Blade 150 systems shipped with 650MHz CPUs
which were configured to run at 550MHz (FIN I0967-1).
- Note from Appendix C.5.1: Power on banner, POST and the OpenBoot
PROM report the CPU as an UltraSPARC-IIe[tm] processor. The SunBlade
150 CPU is an UltraSPARC-IIi.
|
DIMMs |
- Early Sun Blade 150 systems were manufactured with incorrectly labeled
DIMMs (FIN I0901-1).
- Either 1, 2 or 4 DIMMs must be installed. Always fill connectors [1],
or [1 and 2], or [1,2,3 and 4]. Never fill connectors [1, 2 and 3] without
filling connector [4].
- To identify a failed DIMM, see TABLE 4-2 in section 4.5 of the Service
Manual.
- Memory Architecture information is found in Appendix C.9.
- Also reference the SunBlade 150
DIMM Installation Guide (816-5370).
|
PCI card |
- Maximum power consumption for all three PCI connectors is 50 watts.
- Do not install a combination of PCI cards and/or graphics accelerators
that have a combined power consumption of 50 watts or more.
|
Graphics Card |
- XVR-600 graphics card can cause rendering performance issue when
performing simultaneous rendering update with OpenGL windows. (FIN I1161-1).
- When using the Sun XVR-100 Graphics Accelerator window system in 8
bit depth mode, desktop users will experience a colormap flash problem
depending on what application is being displayed (FIN I0968-1).
