Sun Fire X4270 M2 Server LEDs

The Sun Fire X4270 M2 Server provides the following LED groupings:

Front Panel LEDs Rear Panel LEDs

Sun Fire X4270 M2 Front Panel LEDs



Three of the front panel LEDs are located on the left hand side of the front panel along side HDD0. The other three LEDs are located on the right hand side of the front panel along side of HDD23, and under the two front USB ports. These LEDs provide a quick visual check on the state of the system.

LED Name LED color Description
Locator LED and Locator button
White Enables you to identify a particular server. The LED is controlled using the following method:
  • Use ILOM to toggle the LED on and off
    This LED provides the following indications:
  • Off - Normal operating state.
  • Fast Blink - Enables you to locate a particular system quickly and easily.
  • Service Action Required LED Amber The service required LED will illuminate when any of the following conditions occur:
  • A fault is detected by the system diagnostics, such as POST
  • When a FRU fails, such as a power supply
  • Power/OK LED Off AC power is not present or the ILOM boot has not completed.
    Green - Steady On Normal Operation - The server is powered on and all host POST tested have completed.
    Green - Slow Blink Startup sequence has been initiated on the host. This pattern should begin soon after powering on the sever.
    Green - Standby Blink Standby power is on, but the chassis power is off and ILOM SP is running.
    Power on/off Button Turns the system on and off. This button is recessed to prevent accidental server power-off. There is no Power On/Off button on the rear panel.
    Top Fan Fault LED Amber Indicates that one or more of the internal system fan modules have failed.
  • OFF - Indicates steady state; no service action is required.
  • STEADY ON - Indicates service action required; service the fans.
  • Rear Power Supply Failure LED Amber Indicates that one of the server power supplies has failed.
  • OFF - Indicates steady state; no service action is required.
  • STEADY ON - Indicates service action required; service the power supply.
  • System Overtemperature LED Amber This is a warning indication, not a fatal over temperature condition. Failure to correct this might result in the system over heating and shutting down unexpectedly.
  • OFF - Normal operation; no service action required.
  • STEADY ON - The system is experiencing an overtemperature warning condition.

    Sun Fire X4270 M2 Rear Panel LEDs

    LED Name Description
    PSU DC OK (Green) STEADY ON - Normal operation DC output voltage is within specification.
    OFF - 12V power is disabled.
    PSU AC OK (Green) STEADY ON - Normal operation. Input power is above minimum specification.
    OFF - No AC power is present.
    PSU Service required (Amber) STEADY ON - The power supply has detected a fan failure, overtemp, over current, or over/under voltage.
    OFF - Normal operation, no service action required.
