9 SSI Node-Locked Licensing	Notes
9 (General)

9

The following describes how to enable SSI software for
node-locked licensing. Graphics	produced by the	software may
be displayed remotely using X Windows, but the software	will
be constrained to run on the	cpu of the licensed host. If
you need floating licensing, please see the "SSI Floating
License	Manager	Installation Notes".

For the	purpose	of demonstration, this document describes
how to enable SimWave.	The same steps may be used to enable
other SSI software packages; simply substitute the name of
the desired package for the string, "wav", in the following
instructions.

Create a "/usr/ssi" directory if it doesn't already exist,
and following the instructions in the user's manual, install
the software. You will	need to	create a soft link in the
"/usr/ssi" directory which points to the actual location of
the software. For example, if SimWave is installed in
"/usr/cad/wav2.3I.1", use this command:

	ln -s	/usr/cad/wav2.3I.1 /usr/ssi/wav

Set the	permissions for	the links so that all users can
access the software:

	chmod a+rx /usr/ssi/wav

The directory "/usr/ssi" is also needed	for the	SSI software
licensing system, so do not modify it	in any way after the

software enabling has been completed. The software protec-
tion should now	be enabled.

1. Enabling

Go to the "/usr/ssi/wav" directory and execute	the command
"BIN/enable" while logged in as superuser/root.	When
prompted, choose the "initialize" mode. This first execu-
tion of BIN/enable will initialize the software and	will
create a hexadecimal file named	"PINIT".

Either FAX the PINIT file to Systems Science-Customer	Ser-
vice at	(415) 812-1820 or, following the instructions in the
next section, e-mail the PINIT to enable@systems.com.

Systems	Science	will return to you a validation password.
Go to the "/usr/ssi/wav" directory and put the password	in a
file named "PASS.OUT".	Be sure	to enter all "0's" as zeros
and not as upper case "O's". Then, while	logged in as
superuser/root,	run BIN/enable again, but this	time choose
the "validate" mode. This will	enable SimWave to execute on
the licensed machine. Do not execute "BIN/enable" in the
initialize mode a second time or you will need to obtain
another	password.

1.1. Enabling Via e-mail

Validation passwords can be retrieved by e-mailing the PINIT
file to enable@systems.com. Your e-mail must	be formatted
exactly	as follows:

END USER: John Doe, Super Systems, Central CAD
	PINIT:
	a7b4 a7e5 9e18 293b
	5d5d 81cb 6c4b d1

Please make sure to include your name,	company, and divi-
sion. Make sure the PINIT code follows the "PINIT:" header
line.

The "enable" login will	mail back to you a validation pass-
word and a "reference" number. The reference number can be
used later to extend the enabling or to	get a permanent	ena-
bling.

To extend a license beyond the	initial evaluation period,

you must send Systems Science a request. The request should
include	your workstation's hostid and a	copy of a purchase
order or other reason for the extension. If	your request
for extending the enabling is accepted, you may use the
reference number to get a new validation password. The
validation password may	be retrieved by	e-mailing the refer-
ence number to	enable@systems.com. Your e-mail	must be	for-
matted exactly as follows:

	END USER: John Doe
	REFERENCE: 2345

If for some reason you cannot find the reference, or for any
other reason you cannot get an	extension, you can re-enable
from scratch (enable in	the initialize mode).

2. Customer Support

If you have any	problems, send e-mail to support@systems.com
or call	Systems	Science-Customer Support at (415) 812-1800.

3. Re-installation and	Upgrades:

All the	enabling files reside in a directory with a blank
name, within /usr/ssi. If those files	are removed, copied,
or touched, the	software is disabled. However, the software
package itself, can be	re-installed or	upgraded without any
effect on the enabling. Changes in version numbers,	i.e.
wav1.0	to wav1.1, require re-enabling. Changes in	sub-
versions, i.e. wav1.0B to wav1.0C, and do not	require re-
enabling (just install the new software	and it will continue
to be enabled).
