Chapter 16

Using Grids

You can use grids in Visual Thought to help you create, align, size, and position objects. Objects "snap" to user-defined intervals when the grid is turned on.

Each View has its own grid settings.

Examples of Using a Grid

Display a Grid

The Grid dialog appears.

The Snap On? checkbox should be activated. It is a toggle. When "snap" is on, objects can only be moved on points of the grid; they "snap" into position.

Snap On? and Show Grid? are independent of each other; snap can be on when the grid is hidden or displayed. And the grid can be displayed regardless of whether snap is on or off.

Notice that the grid display is "live" as the spacing is changed with the slider. Visual Thought is a very "live" environment.

Move Objects on a Grid

The constraining only happens when you hold down the Ctrl key. For example, if you have two objects, you can click on one to move it. While dragging, move it to coincide with the other, press Ctrl, then move the object away. Now the dragged object is guaranteed to lie on the same horizontal or vertical line as the stationary object.
