48263 | Sun StorEdge[TM] A5000:Symptom:luxadm Probe Returns Disk Drive Data Paths Instead of A5x00 Enclosure Information | 28 Oct 2002 |
Status | Issued |
Description |
To identify attached A5X00 enclosures, "luxadm probe" is used. In most instances, the output from luxadm probe will show the enclosure name as well as its ses devices, like you see below. # luxadm probe Found Enclosure(s): SENA Name:A5200B Node WWN:508002000002dc90 Logical Path:/dev/es/ses0 Logical Path:/dev/es/ses1 Logical Path:/dev/es/ses4 Logical Path:/dev/es/ses5 With this particular problem, 'luxadm probe' fails to identify the enclosure and corresponding ses devices. Instead, no Network Array enclosures are found and the path to the fiber channel disks are shown. #luxadm probe Network Array enclosures found in /dev/es Found Fibre Channel device(s): Node WWN:20000020370f448d Device Type:Disk device Logical Path:/dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s2 Logical Path:/dev/rdsk/c12t0d0s2 Node WWN:20000020370f44f0 Device Type:Disk device Logical Path:/dev/rdsk/c1t1d0s2 Logical Path:/dev/rdsk/c12t1d0s2 Node WWN:20000020370f46f2 Device Type:Disk device Logical Path:/dev/rdsk/c1t2d0s2 Logical Path:/dev/rdsk/c12t2d0s2 ......
SOLUTION SUMMARY:
This document assumes there are no hardware issues causing the problem. It may be a good idea to rule out a hardware issue by other troubleshooting techniques (such as boot cdrom, etc.). With that said, this problem will occur if there is no "ses" entry in the /etc/devlink.tab file. Check to see if the following line exists in the file: type=ddi_pseudo;name=ses es/ses\N0 If not, add the line to the file. Then run the commands "drvconfig -i ses" and "devfsadm -C". Now "luxadm probe" should work as expected.
